DirecTV Argentina, now owned by local holding company Grupo Werthein, has signed an agreement with the Argentinian telecommunications service provider Metrotel to expand its fibre to the home network in the Buenos Aires province.
Initially, the partners will connect around 20,000 premises in Pilar and Ingeniero Maschwitz in the northern part of the province, allowing users to access the internet and the DirecTV catalog at speeds of 100Mbps.
As a result of the arrangement, DirecTV seeks to complement its satellite TV product suite with fibre-optic broadband access.
According to a company press release, DirecTV has offered fibre broadband in Godoy Cruz (Mendoza Province) since 2016 and TD-LTE connectivity in multiple locations since 2014.
After the contract, the telco will be able to access Metrotel's infrastructure to develop the network, over which its customers will be able to receive the DTH signal, in addition to connecting to DirecTV Go, the company's OTT that combines a grid of more than 100 channels Live with a library of VoD content with more than 10,000 titles.
Metrotel, which a few months ago divested of its residential business, will offer its infrastructure in a shared mode for third parties to take care of reaching end users with connectivity.
