United Group, the parent company of Croatian operator Telemach, denied it is putting the unit up for sale but rather its passive infrastructure to pay off debts, as part of wider plans for all of its units in Eastern Europe.
New channel N1, also owned by United Group, reported speculation had been rising on United Group divesting its operator.
The telecoms and broadcasting company told the broadcaster: "In accordance with current market practice, we plan to monetise our mobile base station infrastructure in some of the countries in which United Group operates, including Croatia."
BC Partners, owner of United Group, were reported to be preparing tower sales in Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia, according to Bloomberg.
United Group said it began the process of separating its towers from Telemach into subsidiary United Towers.
Operators globally have been selling off passive infrastructures such as towers and base stations to raise cash in their bids to improve service and coverage. N1 noted Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom have made massive moves in regard to their infrastructure. As Developing Telecoms reported, the Philippines has proven a hotbed for tower sales.
