From Indonesia come reports of another satellite-based project to bring communications services to more parts of this vast country.
Satellite networking technology company Wavestream Group and Indonesian technology investment company TRG Investama are to collaborate with Indonesian telecommunications company Teleglobal to provide satellite communication to the Indonesian market. A multi-million US dollar project has been secured with a leading tier-1 Indonesian mobile network operator for 4G cellular backhaul over satellite.
The aim of the partnership is to provide essential communication requirements to the people of Indonesia, enabling enterprises to accelerate infrastructure deployment in the country. The roll-out of 4G cellular backhaul over satellite for the tier-1 MNO is the first step in this strategic collaboration.
The partnership will take on additional projects and address additional domains of the enterprise segment, including mining and banking, say the partners. Wavestream Group says its multi-service single platform and versatile VSAT equipment perfectly support the large scope and potential of satellite connectivity in Indonesia for multiple market segments.
Indonesia is not just a very big country but also made up of thousands of islands and thus, as we have noted before in these pages, various approaches to connectivity are required – and are being rolled out – to meet the demand for both basic and enhanced communications services. Satellite networks are playing a major role in this effort.
