Apple was again fined for selling iPhones without chargers in Brazil, this time by the Sao Paulo state court to the tune of BRL100 million (US$19m), reported Reuters.
The state court ruled in favour of the association of borrowers, consumers and taxpayers which filed a lawsuit complaining the company was committing abusive practices by not including a charger.
The Sao Paulo court said: "It is evident that, under the justification of a 'green initiative,' the defendant imposes on the consumer a required purchase of charger adaptors that were previously supplied along with the product."
Apple said it will appeal the ruling. The decision by the tech giant to not include chargers was a move to reduce global carbon emissions.
Apple was fined BRL12.27 million only last month by Brazil’s justice ministry for the same reason, stating it was a “deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers". The justice ministry also ordered the company to cease selling iPhones that did not include a charger.
