With this solution CoTeCal will be able to provide rural areas not only with ordinary telephone communications but also high speed data rates for Internet interconnections. The network was implemented in the Chalten area of Patagonia, one of the most beautiful areas in Argentina and one where tourism is a main source of income.
Huawei's 450MHz CDMA2000 1x and 1x EV - DO system will provide CoTeCal with voice, fax and circuit data services (up to 14.4Kb/s). Additionally, it features a high speed data rate of up to 2.2Mb/s using package data services through CDMA2000 EV-DO technology. An intermediate solution is also possible which allows customers to reach data services at the speed of 307.2/153.6Kb/s by using CDMA 1x.
The boast of the new solution is that it is best for bringing voice and data services to areas where it is impossible to reach end users through conventional solutions such as copper or fibre optics. This is very important from a social perspective because, according to Yu Dong, Vice President of Huawei Latin America: "with wider coverage performance and high-speed data service capability, Huawei's 450MHz CDMA2000 is a customised solution that is adapted to the local markets and can be rapidly deployed." In brief, the system allows isolated areas to be provided with remote services such as medical care and education.
